The Fury 95 is pleased to welcome UK Elite's Tom Holland as our new Head Coach. Tom takes over the reigns of our close-knit group with the endorsement of the Fury's founder and first coach, Stu Pierson.
The team celebrated THREE WINNING SEASONS OUT OF ITS FIRST THREE, including TWO CONSECUTIVE PROMOTIONS. And, this past season, the team SOLIDIFIED ITS PLACE IN ODSL's competitive FIRST DIVISION.
Team philosophy centers on nurturing the "Love of The Game."
To see how the "older girls" nurture their love of the Game, the Fury recently travelled to Charlottesville to cheer on the UVA Women.

More photos of the trip are in the album section..
Head Coach Tom Holland teaches the Elite UK Soccer coaching philosophy, which is centered on a non-dictative method of coaching, where players learn, develop and understand the game by using their own creativity. Elite UK Soccer embraces this method as it gives individual ownership to the player - when you give a player ownership of a thought, idea or practical execution of a skill, they are more motivated to carry it through to the end. Thus by guiding their creativity, players can be coerced into making logical decisions. Allowing them to remain calmer and at an optimal state to work their way out of trouble.
As opposed to merely issuing a series of instructions or corrective measures, this non-dictative method is achieved by asking a series of leading questions. This way, players will arrive at the correct solution via their own reasoning. In addition, drills where players have to use their own observation and knowledge to understand outcomes are preferred to rigid line drills. The aim is to have the player recognize faults within their own game and the surrounding aspects of the game. Where ever possible, relating the drill to real game situations to present real challenges. When credit is given to successful execution of these simulated drills, it can bring about increased confidence during real games.
Coach Holland achieves the desired "Creative Coaching Style" by asking the correct questions and observing when to advance or simplify the drills for better understanding. Creativity involves coming up with many possible solutions to a single problem. Creative performers can be spotted by their actions and thoughts.
As a result of Creative Coaching certain behaviors and thoughts will characterize the way a player would react to certain game situations:
Fluency of Ideas - The ability to generate a large number of ideas. Through coaching Elite UK Soccer will give players, ideas to imagine many competitive scenarios and how to deal with them most effectively.
Flexibility - The ability to adjust to the situation effectively. Flexible competitors do not remain focused on solutions that do not work. Changing strategies during competition is an example of flexibility. Having the presence of mind to adjust your approach and attack an opponent’s weak point.
Originality - Behaving in ways that few others do. It's an expression of creativity to come up with a novel solution to a common problem.
As well as encouraging creative play, Elite UK Soccer also supports the use of simplicity. The philosophy is that through creativity, decision-making and guidance from Coach Holland, players recognize when to select and use the correct method of play. At times the need for simplicity will out way the urge to try something difficult.
The "Creative Coaching Style" used by Elite UK Soccer is resultant of their knowledge and experience gained through playing and coaching of the game at a professional level in Europe and America. Coach Holland, like all UK Elite Soccer coaches, is highly qualified and carries a UEFA license.
