Warrenton Youth Soccer Club—Kickin’ It Up After a Decade

Congratulations to the Warrenton Youth Soccer Club (WYSC), which is celebrating 10 years of service to the soccer-playing community. Since the program was established with 21 kids in 1999, WYSC has grown tremendously and currently serves more than 700 children and adults of various skill levels each fall and spring season.

"Our emphasis is on learning, teamwork, and sportsmanship," explains Raul Heras, WYSC founder and director, who adds that WYSC’s small team rosters ensure that each player gets plenty of game time on the field. "Since all our games are played at Athey athletic fields at the Warrenton Sports Complex, it’s very convenient for families with multiple children playing on different teams," co-founder Oscar Blanco-Alcala notes. "Without having to split up and travel to fields across the county, a day on the soccer field becomes a family event."

WYSC is especially proud that the U-11 Tigers became the first WYSC girls’ travel team to win a division title. They were undefeated in Division 3 of the Old Dominion Soccer League last spring.

Active adults can also join in the fun—WYSC has several adult soccer teams. For more information, visit www.wysc.org.
